Café Mamo is an American restaurant and wine bar inspired by Grandma’s Garden.

We champion our local producers and feature them on every dish of our changing menu. Our rolls and half chicken are the only staples, so if you had a great dish last time you were in, it could be until next year before it comes back around.

Our award winning wine list has something for everyone, and we are happy to help you find a great bottle. If you’re eating here, sharing a bottle with your dining companions is always our recommendation.

“WHO IS MAMO?”

Mamo is Mike’s grandmother.

Mamo is a champion of local food systems, urban gardening, and community engagement.

We honor her by working within our local round up of farmers and ranchers from across Michigan, participating in our community’s events, and treating all of our guests with kindness.

General Manager & Sommelier

SUMMER KNOOP

Summer grew up tapping maple trees, playing softball, and working hard in Reed City, Michigan.

After graduating from Central Michigan University with a degree in hospitality management administration, she went on to get her Wine and Spirits Education Trust (Level 3) Award in Wines, and is a Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier (Level 2).

In NYC, Summer worked at two B&B Hospitality Group restaurants as a Sommelier at the Michelin-starred La Sirena and as Head Sommelier at Greenwich Village staple, Lupa.

Summer has worked nearly every angle of the service industry; server, barista, bartender, Sommelier, and manager. All in pursuit of her dream to open a restaurant and uniquely curated wine bar of her own.

This restaurant has been our dream since our very first date.

We bought a defunct Boost Mobile and got to work on a maze of city permits, demolition, and then…a pandemic hit.

But we kept it pushing.

We learned to pour and polish concrete, tile walls, configure electricity, build and lacquer chairs and tables .

Café Mamo’s got our blood, sweat, and tears mixed in every square inch cuz we built it ourselves, with friends and family.

We love our community.

The way an auntie scoops a second helping, or your grandad insists on lending a hand on that project you’re working on.

We do our best to treat every soul who pulls up a chair with love and nothing less.
